Willow Garden Shetlands Spreading Across Canada
This year is shaping up to be a year to remember in terms of sales!
To date in 2005, breeding stock has been sold to farms in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and British Columbia. A ewe from Nova Scotia is here at Willow Garden to be bred by one of our rams. With the rams that were sold last year to two farms in Alberta, there are/will soon be Willow Garden Shetlands in seven out of Canada's ten provinces.
We are proud of this accomplishment and encouraged by the number of breeders who value the genetics that we have compiled.
Willow Garden Shetlands For Sale
At the moment, we are sold out of mature ewes.
There are three yearling gulmoget rams still available.
We are just now beginning to evaluate and sort through our ram lambs. If there is something specific that you need for your breeding program, please ask, as we'll likely have a ram to fit the bill.
There are still a few ewe lambs available. Check them out. They are selling quickly.
SSBO Shetland Sheep Show Results
In conjunction with the NASSA Annual General Meeting held in Cambridge in mid-July, the Shetland Sheep Breeders of Ontario held their Annual Shetland Sheep Show. It was great fun for all . both participants, spectators, and the sheep (who seemed to love the attention).
WillowGarden Duke Ellington, an exquisite and rare emsket coloured ram lamb with a very even, crimpy, single coated and soft fleece won 'Best Fleece on Hoof - Lamb'.
A yearling ewe bred by Willow Garden, and now owned by Shauna Grey of WindWater Farm near Uxbridge, won 'Best Fleece on Hoof - Adult'.
WillowGarden Hattie McDaniel, a moorit ewe with a fine, even, crimpy, single coated and soft fleece won Best Yearling Ewe.
Hattie was also judged by Carole Dailley and Linda Doane to be the 'Ewe Most Resembling the Ewes In the Original Importation'. Considering our flock goals, that include a statement of our desire to "strive to maintain a flock that is comparable to the flocks on these two farms (Dailley & Doane Farms)" . we were thrilled and honoured with this award.
These honours are great encouragement, indeed . and certainly indicate that we are on the right track! |
